About Us

Hockey cards are our passion, and we’re here to share our enthusiasm and knowledge. Hockey Cards NZ is Dom and Greg, mates who share an interest in hockey and collecting hockey cards.

Dom started collecting as a kid, which was when he first discovered the magic of opening a pack of new cards. Living in Canada introduced him to hockey, then 15 years ago he was recovering from an injury and needed a distraction, something positive to focus on. The answer was hockey cards, and he’s been collecting with purpose ever since – building a collection based on the cards he loves, including Jarome Iginla, Miikka Kiprusoff and late-90s goalie inserts.

Greg is originally from Tampa, Florida, and fell in love with hockey in 2003 when a neighbour invited him to see the Tampa Bay Lightning play the Pittsburgh Penguins. During the 2003–04 season he watched almost every Lightning game on TV and went to Game 7 of the Stanley Cup final, where he saw the Lightning win their first Stanley Cup. During the ‘04–05 lockout he learned to play ice hockey and played for five years. He had season tickets to the Lightning 2005–09, sitting right behind the bench and witnessing greats such as Lecavalier and St. Louis make some incredible plays. He was there for the dominant rookie seasons of Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin, and got to watch legendary goalies Ed Belfour, Henrik Lundqvist, Martin Brodeur and Dominik Hasek as they made save after miraculous save. In 2020 Greg moved to NZ and got back into hockey card collecting. He met Dom while buying cards off him and together they run a FB group, Hockey Cards NZ. He’s enjoyed seeing the group grow as ice hockey slowly becomes a recognised sport here in NZ. He collects a broad range, especially anything Tampa.
